168 of 365 for 2009 – Environmental Portrait

Environmental Portrait

This Spotted Towhee is a fairly common bird in these parts, typically in heavily wooded areas. They have such a plaintive call, like they are always asking a question and no one is answering. (I took this photo on my sister and brother-in-laws property. I am slowly converting my brother-in-law into a bird nerd but he doesn’t know it, don’t tell him.)

  1. What a gorgeous composition! The greens mixed w/ the orange and blacks of this little guy! Very nice!

  2. Good job! Our towhees are rufus-sided towhees and I’ve been trying to get a good shot of one for years.

  3. Great shot, the eye is especially crisp.

  4. Nice shot – I like the way you’ve framed him with the foliage. It really makes his coloring stand out.
