From Ground Level

This is a White-crowned Sparrow, one of the most prolific singers in our neighborhood. We always know Spring has arrived when these Sparrows start to sing their Spring song.

What birds signal Spring in your neighborhood?

  1. Sparrows and finches are our first signs of spring. Love this guy – what great details and colors – he is definitely a pretty bird!

  2. Beautiful photograph. I’ve never seen this guy before. He’s very interesting looking. We have robins and sparrows.

  3. Nice shot of the white crowned sparrow–they’re so cool looking, I think. We’ve had a whole team of golden crowned sparrows this spring as well, such a treat. The true herald of spring for us is the Bewick’s wren–such a small bird, so operatic!

  4. Wonderful portrait of this pretty bird – really sharp and well ‘posed’. Our first sign of spring, birdwise, has to be the Canada Geese flying overhead to get to their summmer homes.

  5. A wonderful shot, it looks a bit leery of you. the pileated woodpeckers getting active and calling back and forth are my favorite bird sign of spring. I’ve yet to get an acceptable shot- they like very tall snags.
